Industrial Sewing Program

Program Details

The Industrial Sewing Program prepares trainees for a career in the sewn trades, an industry that has a rich tradition in the region and is experiencing a resurgence. Sewing technicians are in HIGH demand and can make anywhere from $15/hr starting to $20-30/hr for experienced sewers. Most manufacturers are looking for sewing technicians that have some basic experience with industrial machines, so this workshop is the perfect foot-in-the-door with area manufacturers.

These courses cover textile information and basic industrial sewing techniques on wovens and knits. It covers straight stitch, overlock machine, coverstitch and heavier walking foot machines. In addition to sewing terms, fabric structures and types, and machine knowledge it also covers basic machine maintenance, tools, seams, zippers, and reading/using tech packs. Students will also travel to area manufacturers for tours and instruction, giving a glimpse into the opportunities in the region for creative and hands-on careers in the textile industry.

At the end of the course, graduates receive a Beginner Sewing Kit, consisting of a home sewing machine and a sewing tool kit. By practicing the techniques learned throughout the course, you will be equipped to continue your journey
